Apple has bought the copyright to the cover for the science fiction film The Voyage Home, according to The Verge.
The cover, which debuted at last month’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, is a “perfect representation of how the film was made,” said the Verge, noting that it’s currently on display at the National Archives.
The film’s original cover design was created by John Masefield, who worked on films like The Muppet Show and The Aristocats.
Apple acquired the rights to Masefields original design and has been using it to work on the cover.
The Verge says the cover’s story will be told through Masef’s narration and voiceover.
The Verge notes that the movie’s credits include Robert Bresson, Alan Rickman, Anthony Hopkins, and Tom Cruise.
Apple is the first company to acquire the copyright.
Masefield has since passed away, and the original cover will be reworked to reflect his passing.
