RTE The manuscript calligraphies for Ashmole manuscript manuscripts will be sent to NLL for processing within three weeks.
It is expected to take a further three weeks for the manuscript to be returned to the library.
It is understood that a small number of manuscripts have been sent to NCB from other institutions.
In a statement, Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation Dr John Dermody said the decision to send the manuscripts to NPL for processing was taken after careful consideration of the impact on scientific research.
“This will ensure that the manuscripts can be safely and effectively delivered to the NLL where they will be in the best possible condition for research, teaching and research publication,” Dr Dermoy said.
“The manuscripts sent from other universities will not be affected.”
As the number of scientific manuscripts sent annually by the NLS is small, this decision is expected in the coming months.
