Football Italiano article GianCarl Stanton’s Azzuros side secured their maiden Serie A triumph as they secured a 2-1 win over Sampdoria at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.
The striker scored the opener as Sampdorians Andrea Pirlo struck the bar to put them level on points with Genoa at the top of Serie A with two games remaining.
Giancarlo scored his first goal in Serie A since September with a goal from a penalty spot, and he added a second when he crossed for Mario Balotelli to strike the bar.
Sampdoria were looking for their first win in four games, and after three consecutive defeats, they were rewarded for that when Giancarl Stanton put them in front with a header from the penalty spot.
The 26-year-old had scored five times in eight league games before that, and the result means he has now scored in four consecutive Serie A matches, including his first in the league.
Sammies coach Giovanni Trapattoni was pleased with the way Stanton turned in a fine performance, and has named him in his squad for next week’s Copa del Rey semi-final.
