Written in 1854, the Voynaich Manifold has been a treasure for the English language scholars of the past century, and for anyone who has ever wished to understand the language of the people who wrote it.
The Voynisches Manuscript was first published in 1851, and it has gone through several rewrites and editions since then, most recently in 2014.
The original manuscript has remained largely unchanged for decades, and the German version is now being digitised in its entirety.
The first volume of the digitised Voynigmanuscript was made public in April 2017, but many have already begun to study the new edition, which has been dubbed Voynisch Manifolds Edition.
And this is a first for the world’s leading digital repository of printed documents, the World Wide Web.
The book was first digitised with the help of the Voynovich Society, which also hosts the first edition of the book in print in 1796.
The digitised version of the manuscript, however, will be a completely different kind of book: it is a computerised edition of a text that has never been printed before.
