A manuscript about a man’s suicide attempt is “dooming” to be lost because ISIS militants have threatened to destroy it.
The manuscript about suicide was recently found in an Iraqi cemetery by a woman who had previously been buried there, the New York Times reported.
ISIS fighters have warned the family of the manuscript, which has been dated to the 12th century, that they will destroy it if it’s found in Mosul, the newspaper reported.
The family had no idea that the manuscript was in danger of being destroyed when they first saw it, and are trying to figure out how they can get it out of Mosul, where the militants are holding people suspected of apostasy.
The New York Daily News reports that ISIS fighters threatened to kill the manuscript because it “disproves their religion” and “furthers their cause,” which is to “destruction of the disbelievers,” according to the newspaper.
The family is still trying to determine how to retrieve the manuscript.
